About Us
Our Vision
Help change lives and relieve poverty through love and compassion, helping to make the world a better and more equal place for all.
Our Mission
Our mission is to help prevent or relieve poverty, especially in children. We do this by providing education, reusable sanitary pads and family support. We work directly on the ground in Kenya and also partner with and support like-minded people or organisations in Kenya and other countries to multiply and magnify the impact of our resources.
What We Do
Help Change Lives is a UK charity whose purpose is the prevention or relief of poverty, especially in children. We are regulated by the UK Charities Commission and are registered with HMRC for Gift Aid.
We support underprivileged children and their families directly in Kenya. We provide them with education and vocational skills, reusable sanitary pads, food, water, clothing, shelter, health aids, income generating opportunities and counselling.
We have a large project in Kenya distributing reusable pad kits along with education to help reduce period poverty and keep girls in school. We also sponsor the education of poor children in Kenya at primary, secondary and tertiary levels and have refurbished a large run-down school in Nairobi’s Kangemi slum.
We also support projects in Kenya, India, Uganda, Tanzania, Liberia, Zambia and Malawi by working in partnership with other trusted charities and individuals to enable us to increase our scale and impact. Our focus so far has been on helping street children, differently abled children, providing Covid food and hygiene support, supporting school feeding programmes and providing books to schools.
How We Started
How We Started
I set up Help Change Lives in 2019 with my husband, Parus. We were both brought up in Kenya and saw first-hand the problems associated with poverty and the difference a helping hand can make.
We started our work in Kenya in 2017 by helping a widowed grandmother in Kakamega, Kenya, who was really struggling to look after 8 grandchildren and a disabled son.
We went on to support other similar families with monthly food donations, school fees and help with school items such as uniforms, shoes, stationery and lunches. We visited the families later in 2017 to verify our impact, and then started doing more- constructing toilets and bathrooms, home repairs and paying for medical care.
The number of families we were supporting in Kakamega kept increasing. I decided to devote all my time to this work and resigned from Deloitte in 2019 to found Help Change Lives. We now have several projects to help very vulnerable people in Kenya, India and many other countries – you can find more details here.
We really appreciate all the support from well-wishers, donors and volunteers. Please keep supporting us as the need is vast and it all makes a difference! 100% of all donations are spent on the ground making a difference as Parus and I cover all the minimal admin costs. Thank you very much.
